Truck for towing 2 horse trailer

My wife wants a truck to tow her 2 horses.   What would you recommend?  I like Toyotas but  Toyotas don't have diesel.   Is that necessary?

If diesel, what diesel would you recommend?

New or used would be fine.

Thanks

Clarification: used or new? If used, how many years back are you willing to go?

If you don’t want the added expense diesel comes with. I’d get a 3/4 ton gas. 2015 f250 w/ 6.2 6 speed transmission would be great. A 2 horse wouldn’t really matter to a good 3/4 ton gas truck. If she brings her horses everywhere with her I’d say move up to the diesel. 2nd gen f series 6.7 w 6 speed transmission would be good or a 6.7 Cummins with Asin transmission. To answer your question for a 2 horse no a diesel is not needed. I’ve towed my 4 slant with a 3/4 ton gas and never had an issue at all.

I would opt for a 2005 GMC or Chevy 3/4 ton with the LQ9, 6.0L engine and preferably, a manual trans and 44x4.

What's the weight you consider to tow?

2 horses + 1 trailer would be 4,000 to 7,000 lbs.

@MountainManJoe Thank you. So a Tundra would be fine for him.
