Truck won’t start

Topic starter

I have a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500HD with 240,000 miles on it. Recently the truck will crank but hesitates to start. I’ve changed the fuel pump, the fuel filter, the fuses for the starter, the ignition, the fuel pump, and have also changed the spark plug wires. It still hesitates every other time I try to turn it on. Do you have an idea of what the issue might be?

Check the FAQ section for help, there are several videos from Scotty covering the subject 🙂 . Try using a can of throttle body cleaner and MAF sensor cleaner on your throttle plate and MAF sensor. It's $12 or so for a twin pack at Walmart. Make sure your air filter is clean.

I’ve changed the fuel pump

what kind did you buy? Aftermarket brands are notorious for not working.

Swap out fuel pump fuses and relays too.

I would also run a full diagnostic scan on the vehicle.

I bought the acdelco one

When you say hesitates, does that mean it turns over and doesn't start or it doesn't turn over?  You didn't mention if you changed the spark plugs.  What do you mean when you say you changed the ignition?

It doesn’t turn over, and I did change the spark plugs about an year ago and bought the OEM acdelco brand ones.

If it doesn't turn over, have someone turn the key to start and tap on the starter with a hammer.  Check your battery connections for corrosion and check the grounds too, and make sure the battery is fully charged.  Check the ignition fuse.
