Scotty with the new f150s having a cylinder deactivation like GM trucks, would you still recommend to buy it or would recommend to buy the turbo charged engines?
If it's going to be between a Ford with cylinder deactivation that can't easily be turned off or a Toyota Tundra with turbocharged engine I'll pick the Tundra. I know they had wastegate issues with the new Tundra but from what I'm seeing on a Tundra forum apparently Toyota was fixing trucks before delivering them to the customer as soon as they found out.
I would avoid it for now
Can the Ford's cylinder deactivation be easily turned off?
Not to my knowledge
searched it online now and some people on a F-150 forum were saying if you put it in sport mode then it won't do the cylinder deactivation. Just repeating what I read and have no experience with this car so not sure if it actually works or not, but even if it does it's not really a long term solution for sure.
I came up with the same, also some claims that putting the trans in manual mode will do it, but there's not enough out there to really confirm that it works.
I saw somewhere that you can buy a tow hitch insert for the F150 that when installed, automatically shuts off cylinder deactivation. Need some research on this.
