Mr. Scotty,
I would like to purchase a used vehicle in the next couple of years and have been researching online for my next vehicle. I have narrow it down to three possibilities: Honda Accord Touring, Toyota Camry XSE and Lexus ES 350, but I cannot made up my mind a decide on which one. A quite cabin, low road noise, comfort and MPG's are my top priorities. I really need your help. Thank you and have a Bless day.
What years or year ranges are you considering? Answers will differ depending on such.
For the Honda Accord possibly a 2018, for the Toyota Camry maybe a 2018 or 2019 and for the Es350 the range is from 2016 to 2019.
I would choose between the Toyota Camry vs. the Lexus ES. The 2018 Honda Accord comes with either the 1.5L or 2.0L turbocharged engines which both - and this is especially true for the 1.5L version - have some oil dilution. Also, being a smaller displacement turbo charged GDI is under more stress than the naturally aspirated-only engines found in the Toyota Camry/Lexus. The engine in the Accord is also direct-injection only and susceptible to carbon buildup on the back of the intake valves over time. Meanwhile, the Camry/Lexus ES have none of those shortcomings. You didn’t mention which transmission (10-speed AT, 6-speed MT, or CVT) it has but historically Honda’s transmissions are weaker than Toyota’s. In terms of longevity, the Camry/Lexus ES should last longer and give fewer issues over time.
Between the Camry and ES (which rides on the same platform as the Camry), test drive and see which you like more. The Lexus of course will be more expensive in the long run since cost of parts will be higher. Also, keep in mind the 2016-2018 is near the end of that generation ES (2013-2018) while the 2019 is the first year of the new generation. The 2018/2019 Camry is also the first year or two of the new generation Camry (2018-present). Generally, it’s better to get a vehicle from the last few years of a generation when usually the bugs/issues have been ironed out.
I would think twice about the Accord because they only come with turbocharged engines. Between the remaining two my vote would be for the Camry because parts that are exclusive to Lexus are going to be very expensive.
Beware:
2018+ Honda Accords have oil dilution issues, and 2018 Toyota Camry has transmission issues.
If you avoid the start of the generation, they can all be good cars. 2017 Camry/Accord seems like a good bet, or 2019 Camry. The Lexus ES is a solid luxury car as well.
Thank you everyone for you advice and insight. I will try to do a test drive but won't be for a few months. I'm trying to be safe and I don't know how COVID will continue affect everything. Once again Thank you so much.
Test drive all of them to see how they feel. In my honest opinion, I would choose the Honda Accord because they are very comfortable cars to drive. Toyota Camry and Lexus ES350 are reliable cars.
They’re all great choices.
Test drive them all, in familiar streets, to see how they each perform & choose the one that you like the most.
Good luck!
All excellent cars. Test drive all of them and pick the one you like the most.
I concur with everyone here. When it comes down to reliable car vs reliable car vs reliable car, the best way is to test drive it and see which you like the feel of. Also check out the user interface of each, and see how you like it.
And if you still can't decided, go by looks. What looks good to you. That's usually my deciding factor assuming everything else is about the same.
