Used 2012 Scion xD

Hi Scotty,

I've found a 2012 Scion xD with about 105,000 miles on it at a Toyota dealership near me, currently listed at $8,890. Automatic transmission. I took the beauty cover off the engine and found a bunch of plant debris under the cover. This set off alarm bells for me. How does this even happen and should I be concerned? The dealer also wouldn't let me take it to a mechanic for inspection, so that's not a good sign to me either.

I test drove the car and didn't detect any mechanical issues. My BlueDriver scan tool didn't pick up any codes besides one for the ABS system. Do you think this car is worth pursuing? Of course, I'd like to get one for $5k or less, but don't know how realistic that is in today's market.

Pass on it. Just because it says Scion, it doesn't mean the vehicle was taken care of entirely. You can't trust anyone today. Also, that's a little too much money for that car.

That’s a dealbreaker.   Automatically walk away if you can’t have it inspected by a mechanic.

The BlueDriver is NOT a full system scan tool meaning it won’t catch codes from all systems on the vehicle;  don’t be fooled.  For that you need a full-system scan tool which run $100 to several hundred dollars more than the BlueDriver.
