Hey all! Just trying to get a sense of whether this is a decent car or whether I should forget it and go sienna.
one owner who says they kept up with Maintanence (water pump 65 miles, timing belt 75 miles, etc)
heard bad things about odyssey transmissions
I have a 2016 EX-L Odyssey and it's reliable but the 2011 was the last year they were somewhat horrible the 2012+ are actually decent, though a Sienna would be more reliable. If a mechanic says the engine and transmission are good, it could last.
And the bad transmission is why you should go with the Sienna. Scotty has told us that probably a million times!
The 2011 Odyssey model year in trim levels, LX, EX, EX-L used the 5-speed automatic transmission that wasn't prone to problems.
The Touring and Touring Elite trim levels used the 6-speed automatic, which I would be leery of because when all of the Odysseys went to 6-speed automatics in 2014, they started having widespread transmission problems being reported.
I don't know if it's the same 6-speed they used in the 2011-2013 Touring/Touring Elites.
You might want to research that further if your looking at a 2011 Odyssey,Touring trim level.
Also there were some NHTSA recalls but nothing major and nothing to do with the power train or running gear. Look at those.
Otherwise, if it checks out good and you're comfortable with the price it should be a decent vehicle
