Looking for a good used vehicle for work. What would be the sweet spot for a budget? Can you get away with spending $5000 for a reliable Corolla or are you better off spending a little more? If I am set on a Corolla are there some years that are better than others? Any years to avoid?

Ok, so linked below are a bunch of links of Toyota and Hondas to avoid, years with common problems, FAQ of the site, etc. so check them out.
5k should get you a pretty nice 2003-2008 generation
10k should get you a pretty nice 2014-2016 generation
I would swing for 2011-2016 model years, where I am, would cost $6000-$12000 but where I live is expensive. Avoid 2009, 1998-2002...
