Hi Scotty, I need your opinion on 2014 Lexus ES 250. I don't think it's available in the US but it's available in Europe and Asia. This car has 2.5L, 4 cylinders, 16 Valves DOHC VVT engine. 6 speed Automatic Super ECT with A.I. shift transmission. And it has only 22,000 km on the odometer.
Is that a reliable car? Should I buy it? And is there a way or a scanner to find out if the odometer is genuine?
Have a pro check it over and tell you what condition it is in. It is worth the money for an informed opinion.
Have it checked by a qualified mechanic before you buy. It should be an OBD port and yes a scanner will tell the real mileage.
Which scanner can do that? Not even my $400 Autel scan tool can read the mileage parameter on my vehicles.
I thought Scotty said in one of his videos that his scanner could read mileage, but it is also possible I misunderstood. My apologies if that is the case.
It’s possible on those multi-thousand dollar scan tools - I just don’t know. Even more reason to have vehicle checked out by a pro like Scotty with dealer-level scan tool.
So basically the Camry powertrain? Its a pretty dependable set up but the transmissions tend to be on the weaker side if not maintained. Make sure to change the transmission fluid every 60-70 thousand kilometers (drain and fill). If you can get your hands on some service records lets say at the dealer that should show you if the odometer was rolled back or not. Have a mechanic inspect it before buying.
