Hey guys! How are you doing? I bought a 2006 Lexus rx400h yesterday. Clean title, single owner, super nice carfax, 118k miles but I plugged in my OBD2 Scanner and it gave me the P2196 Code. That's why it won't pass the smog check. I ordered OEM bank 1 sensor 1($120) ait-fuel ratio sensor and i am thinking to clean my mass air fuel sensor. Do you think it will pass the smog? Should I something else? Thanks
Scotty is probably right, if you know how to look at the data, you can probably get a better idea of what needs attention. Sometimes even though the code is for one part of the car, the problem can be upstream or downstream from that area.
With that said, mass airflow sensor cleaning is relatively simple and quick (on many cars), so it wouldn’t hurt to try cleaning it, and to see if it resolves the problem.
Yeah my old Ford f-150 threw a code indicating intake runner gasket or something like that. When you look it up, it would indicate a very expensive fix for it.
In the end it was a vacuum line that ran behind the battery, and the line had a hole in it. $5 fix and it was fine.
Always nice to do the cheap stuff first, maf sensor could likely be cleaned in about 5 minutes.
Well you're just guessing you are doing logical guessing, but it's still just guessing. There are so many things that can affect that. When I work on I road test them, record all the data, then analyze the data. There are hundreds of lines of data that goes here. Those hybrid cars are extremely complex. Pray that other sensor will fix it.
I appreciate your all answers guys. I love this platform. Thank you so much!
