What do you think about a used Renault Megane 2 sedan of 2005 with 100K miles?. It has a 1.5 diesel engine with a manual transmission at $2500

Those K9K dCi diesels are relatively bulletproof, especially with a manual tranny.

However, I’m not sure if an 18 yr old Renault is worth $2500..

Have it inspected thoroughly by a professional mechanic before purchase and have him check for any deal breakers.

Not recommended, too old - what are the other options?

If you want a Meganè, get a manual 3rd gen post facelift manual - those were amazing.

Well, I'm from Ghana in West Africa, and even though we can get some cars new, majority of the people get them preowned by someone else, to cut down cost.

So there are other options definitely, but among them is 2000 to 2005 Honda accord and Toyota Camry of 2004 and earlier.

With the economy, I thought you were that 1.5 diesel engine would be cool.
I also love to drive a standard transmission because I do not want the troubles related with the automatic transmissions.

Well I had a Renault Meganè Classic brand new - broke down constantly worst car I have ever had.
The 2nd generation is already a "Renault-Nissan" car, but they're still just tend to be troublesome.
(Not relevant but just for reference, the 3rd generation is just an early 2000's sedan based on the Nissan Rouge with everything sorted out expect for bad automatics, but that's just how Renualt-Nissan-Mitsubishi is)

You can't even compare it to a Camry or an Accord those are just so much better.
The XV30 Camry is delightful - but AVOID "Super CVT-i" - only manual or conventional automatic the old versions of the 2.4L didn't have the same issues as the ones after it and the V6 is solid.
AVOID the Accord, 2000-2005 all had bad transmissions.

How about civics, or Honda fits, which ones should I avoid, and which would you recommend?

The civics, I think I cannot afford beyond 2009

For the fit, i think I can get till the 2015 model

In 2005 the Civic was alright mechanically but meh to use, after that they had some mechanical issues -

The ‘08 and ‘09 models are great to use (BUT before 08 Honda has issue with engine blocks cracking and before that transmission- Honda’s small cars never got to the level of Toyota)

The Fit is alright, but manual only and only L12 / L15A / other trusted engines...

What about a 10th gen Toyota corolla? A 2010~2012 1.6/1.8 are some of the best cars ever made, even to this day.

I'll narrow my search down to your recommendations. I'm really grateful.

I also came across a 2009 Matrix with 1.8l 4 cylinder engine. Worth considering?

If it’s a 1st generation car then sure, the 2nd gen we’re oil burners…
The 1st did burn some oil, but they weren’t that bad.
I’d check the tail pipe and plugs just to be sure it doesn’t burn too much oil…
