Scotty,
What is a reliable SUV or minivan for 7-12 thousand dollars? I'm guessing it's Toyota, Honda or maybe xxx. What would be a reliable alternative to the big two? Or should you just stick with one of these two?

If you search the board you will find that this kind of question has been asked numerous times. Also see "Vehicles reviewed by Scotty" on this site. Failure trends for specific models can be found at sites like carcomplaints.com.
With any used vehicle the most important factor is the condition of the one you are considering. Do not trust reporting services like Carfax except possibly for detecting odometer rollback. It is imperative that you have a good mechanic examine any used vehicle before purchase.
