Don't even think about buying that. Way too much money for a 13-year-old Hyundai SUV. It's most likely on its last legs.

Hi Scotty ,

what you think about a 2008 Saturn Vue with 120,000 miles on it?

@Thumpy who owns a Saturn Vue (2006) with 222,000 miles on it (original engine and transmission)

Depend on how much you pay for it and in what shape it is.

What you about a 2004 Honda Accord V6 for sale? With 165000 miles on it for 3500. What your thoughts?

A lot of those V6 Hondas and Acuras from that era had very weak automatic transmissions. Even if the transmission was fixed or replaced, it’ll probably break again. I would pass and get a 4 cyl Accord as they weren’t as problematic as the V6s. If not, then you could get a V6 Camry as it had a much more solid auto transmission. As with other cars, make sure a trusty mechanic checks it out before purchase.

Ok thanks

Hi guys,

what you guys think of a 2004 honda crv LX 4WD for $4,000 ? Miles 140,000

Its a great car, but is missing the side airbags on the lx and were standard on the ex. Are good beater cars though. Not much power, it is mostly the utility that sold on these.

Hi Guys,

im interested in buying this 2001 Toyota RAV for $4,900 with 148,000 miles on it with one owner.(2.0 motor) But the tricky part is is at a Toyota dealership. I want to buy the Toyota but we all know dealerships will Charge crazy fees . My goal is to buy it for $3,500 flat Including the fees. What your thoughts on how I can get the dealer? And also is this a good SUV ?pleaae help

First have a mechanic check it out because those had problems often with the transmission systems and if a guy says that's a problem don't buy it there generally ask more money than that at a dealer so I assume that RAV4 has a problem

Ok thanks

Of course I have a mechanic check it out but if it's already had three owners I'd been a bit leery whether it had been wrecked or anything a mechanic could show you that

Hi Scotty,

Should I be interested in buying a 2005 chevrolet equinox $1500 with 140,000 miles ?

I have a 2009 with 235k miles. bought it from used dealer that stated it was a rental car. I have changed the oil and filters regularly and it has been a great car. We drive it like a grandmother. There has for a long time a "klunk" in the tranny when accelerating. It has overall been a great first car for my daughter, I also own a 2010 that has 187k miles on it. I bought it as a salvage title and it runs great. I don't know about other years but these two have been really good.

Your probably right. You will never get an Elantra for just $3800 these days. A lot has changed in 9 months.

189K is a lot of miles, but for a Rav4 2009 there may be another 100K left.  That price is on the low end.  Why?

There are a number of things you need to do to assess the value:

  • Seller (dealer vs private)
  • condition (body, interior, tires, smoking)
  • car details (options, 2/4-wheel drive)
  • title status (clean, salvage, etc)
  • mechanic inspection

Thanks

Hi Scotty,

im interested in buying a SUV under $5,000. I’m having my 5 kid and I need an another reliable SUV . I have Chevy TB. Any requests what I can get all of that price range?

Just traded in a 2011 Hyundai which was running just just fine with plus 200K miles. $3800 sounds kinda pricey for a 12 year old car but then again I got 8K for a 2011 Santa Fe on a trade-in. The dealer resold the car for 12K. There were some bad years for Hyundai engines made in the USA plants between 2012 and 2016. I don't recall any problems with the 2009 but you should do some research before you buy. Parts are plenty-full. You can get filters , starters and hubs at any AutoZone. There is a lot of online part available also. Have a mechanic check it out before you buy.

This does not constitute an endorsement of any particular brand just reflects my own experience.

This is unsolicited endorsement. You reviving a 9 month old post to tell us your "experiences". I doubt this person is still considering this Elantra, even if it was still for sale.

Your probably right. You will never get an Elantra for just $3800 these days. A lot has changed in 9 months. Wisconsin is suing Hyundia/Kia because two 3rds of all cars being stolen are Hyundia's and Kia's.
