I have to say I like my 2004 Toyota Matrix. It has 192,000 miles on it. The little 1.8 L motor hums along nicely. The A246E transmission makes some whirring noise like a toy robot between 1st and 2nd but shifts fine.
I am looking for a good deal on a replacement transmission for a few hundred dollars to have at the ready when the time comes.
I hear Scotty on some of his videos talking about people buying lightly used Toyota engines and transmissions from Japan.
Does anyone have a source?

You can probably google "JDM import engine and trans" and find a decent one.
