I accidentally didn't read that I bought 3 5qt of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w-30 (non high-mileage) and I have a 2010 Yaris 112k that takes 5w-30. Would it be a bad idea to use it for future oil changes? I purchased Pennzoil Ultra Platinum because Project Farm recommended it as being the best or one of the best.
I don't understand. You car takes 5w30 ... put in the 5w30.
It's just the high mileage part and wasn't sure if I can only use high mileage 5w30.
you can use ANY oil that meets the specifications in your owner's manual. This is covered in our FAQ, plus answred 738 more times in the forum.
As long as the viscosity and type of oil matches what is in your manual, and are using the brand name stuff, or the generic stuff from a reputable supplier, you should be fine.
It should be fine using regular oil. The high mileage oil is just marketing gimmick.
Gotcha!
in the Project Farm video he's referring to, the oil labelled "high mileage" did actually perform a little bit better in the bench tests (which doesn't necessarily translate to real-world results).
But regular stuff will be just fine. ANY major brand of oil with the correct specification will be just fine.
