Hey Scotty, I've got a 1993 Ford E-350 cutaway that was an ambulance on an Air Force Base that has been decommissioned. It's got a 7.3 an international 7.3 IDI mechanically injected diesel engine with an E4OD transmission. How do you feel about these engines, the transmission, the chassis and the combination of all three? Also, I have same year F-350 with the same engine and transmission but it's four-wheel-drive with Borg Warner transfer case and Dana 60 front axle, my goal is to make the cutaway van four-wheel-drive using the pick up as a donor. Your opinion? Any suggestions? I love your channel but I never hear too much about diesel configurations from you. What's your favorite and why?
More 7.3's! Yes!
Your project seems quite involved with the process of adding 4WD, but I can say that if you do it right, it would reward you. Those 7.3's just keep running and you can't kill them. I've never heard of any issues with the E40D on those old Econolines.
I'm not sure how you are intending to go about making this truck 4WD though. The chassis are the same but If I were you, I would stick the 7.3 in the 350 unless you are really needing a cutaway van. I feel that a 93 7.3 F-350 would be a better truck to drive around.
