Hey scotty, i have a 2009 Pontiac vibe GT. Sometimes at takeoff there is a valve rattle the last maybe half of a second. It sounds like the rattle you get when you get bad gas. I have bought gas treatment and it still does it. What could this be? This car is basically a toyota matrix... Just badged pontiac. It has the 2.4 engine from the toyota Camry of that year. It has 170,000 miles. Thanks a lot.
Generally that's the valve train rattling for me to the VVT system being a little worn or the timing chain slightly stretched as long as it runs okay I personally would live with it because rebuilding the engine is actually more money than the vehicle is worth
Thank you. Im gonna keep this car for a looooong time i dont wanna a car payment. So the vvt would be too expensive to fix? As far as the timing chain may be a little stretch...i can get a new chain and pump. Can a mechanic open the engine and tell me if the vvt is worn? Or is it just not woth it?
