hello jesse here from vancuver canada.

04 Honda civic 110000 miles (190000km). im changing the head gasket. the head is back on, while tightening the valve (rocker) train bolts i was really struggling with getting it tight i set it to 10 ft lbs it should be 20 but i thought id do it in stages and i did them in the right tightening order but it wouldnt click at 10lbs. one bolt broke luckily the whole broken bolt came up with all the threads so i was lucky. i cant figure out why it wasnt clicking at 10 ft Lbs and broke, any ideas? im thinking its either the train wasn't sitting properly or the bolts were weak.

i would offer to be a moderator but im just a home mechanic as you can tell i do some in depth stuff but still not top notch in the knowledge department, most of what i learn is off you tube or trial and error. thanks for the videos glad you can make a living off of speaking the truth its great to see

Calibrate the torque wrench... and store them at lowest setting (if a breaking/snap torque wrench).  You'd be shocked at how bad/off all those torque wrenches are out there being used.
