Hello Scotty, I have a1999 Mitsubishi Mirage Dingo, 64000 mileage, automatic, not scanned and front wheel drive. I bought it from a guy here in the Philippines. It shakes when it reaches 40mph but dissappers beyond 50mph. Just got the rack end and tie rods replaced, it still shakes, I feel it through the steering wheel and the front of the car. What could still be the problem?
To the best of your knowledge, was the car ever in any accident?
No it hasn't been in an accident, I checked the frame is straight there are no body fillers or other signs of a collision.
That generally means that your tires are out of balance of course jack up the front end and see if there's any play in anything if the wheels wobble back and forth or up and down but if they don't get the tires rebalanced or replaced
Thank you very much for your reply Sir, I'll have them rebalanced tomorrow, the front tires are quite new and I checked them they have good thread life and wears evenly. I hope the rebalancing solves the issue. If rebalancing doesn't solve the issue could it be the cv axles or the transmission itself that's the cause? Thank you!
@joules If it turns out your tyres are out of balance, I’d be mad at the shop which sold you a new rack & tie rods. Balancing & alignment is something very basic & cheap, which should be one of the first things checked before selling you expensive front end parts. Plus you said the front tyres are new, any competent shop would balance new tyres before they put them onto your vehicle. If balancing doesn’t fix your issue, I’d load test all the front end suspension components. Is your car aligned & within tolerances?
