Long story short, my girlfriend is getting a new car gifted to her. She currently has a 2010 civic with 88k on it, it runs well except for and intermittent grinding at the front wheels while braking. I have an 08 fit with 162k on it with no problems. She owes about $4000 on it and mine is paid off and I feel that I could get that or more (in Ca) for mine making it practically free to buy. Wanted to crowd source some options. Thoughts?
Assuming the grinding problem isn’t too crazy, I would swap. The civic is a step up, and that Gen is my fav Gen of civic. It started life as an Acura, but Honda loved it so much, made it the civic.
Really? That’s awesome I’ve always loved Acura but it’s out of tax bracket as I’m on the younger side but that’s actually a pretty big selling point for me
What car is she getting gifted?
So let me get this straight. You want to take over her car, sell your car, and use the proceeds to pay of her car?
08 RAV4. And yes that’s correct
I agree. If the problem you describe is minor the swap would be an excellent idea. Just make sure you know the severity of the issue before going forward.
It’s been checked by two mechanics and they said it’s structurally sound. Could it just be cheap pads? Maybe try some akobono pads instead
Isn’t that the model year which was notorious for burning oil? -

I honestly have no clue lol
They don’t seem to have any problem with that. An unrelated question, my fit was made in Japan and her civic was built in Indiana which I’ve heard is one the better factories in the US. You know anything about that?
I’m yet to see any evidence of Honda having assembly problems for the Civics made in the USA. You’d still want a 12 yr old car thoroughly checked out, before you accept it (especially if you don’t know its full maintenance history).
