I have a 1989 Camaro RS with 53k miles. When the temperatures are hot, when I cold start it. , there is some smoke coming out from the exhaust and it smells like burned matches. Could it be that the spark plugs are worn?

Why not pull them out and see?

When you pull the plugs, take a pic and post it - there are analog-conversant folks here who can "read" your plugs.

Is it consuming any coolant or oil?

They seem to be fine. Yes, it burns some oil but not that much over a year. What should I check next?

It could be that some oil and other chemicals have built up in your catalytic converter, and they burn off at startup.

Some brands of gasoline have more sulfur in them, which may be what you're smelling - try switching to a different brand.

Is it running rich - does it have black soot in the tailpipe?

Lately I've been buying brand less premium gasoline at a mall that offers low discounts.
No, there is no black soot in the tailpipe.
