I stalled my manual Volkswagen GTI 2012 turbo (130k miles) on a hill in first gear by going too slow. Usually it starts again fine, but this time it took a couple of tries. Drove it a few meters, heard engine knock, stopped car. It won't start again and the check engine + EPC light are on.
I had it towed to a shop. What could be wrong with it? Why did it stop working after I stalled? How much can I expect this to cost?
I bought this car used two months ago and haven't had any issues with it before. Previous owner (only one) loved it and took good care of it.

Since the check engine light was on presumably you scanned for codes. That information might provide a clue, what were they?
