Hello all,
I am interested in purchasing an old conversion van(80s, 90s) such as an old Dodge Ram, Chevy or other. I was especially interested in older Dodge Rams. How are their reliability? I was looking at at an 85 and an 89 Dodge Ram as well as a '92 Chevy G series van and other similar ones. Let me know. Thanks.
It won't be reliable today. Finding parts will be a challenge. And they're gas guzzlers.
the GM versions IMO are better made, although I had a Ford E 150 that lasted 25 years. Make sure you get a V 8.
I had a 1987 chevy 20 van, I used it for painting and a personal vehicle, I bought it new it was the first year of fuel injection on their vans. I sold it in 2008. It had 387,000 miles on it and I never had any major problems. Of course I changed the oil every 3,000 miles and changed the tranny at regular intervals. It had 305 V8.
Yes they do use a fair bit of gas. But they are conversion vans after all. Mine weighed over 4000 lbs.
So what? It ran great. 12 in town and 16 or so on the road. But I could carry a ton of fishing gear in it and tow my boat!
