Was Toyota the right choice?

Hey Scotty how ya doing.

Convinced my dad to go with the 2018 RAV4 over a 2020 Tucson (similar price) because of the Toyota reputation of lasting a long time, but my dad is a little regretful since the Tuscon had more bells and whistles.  Did we make the right call?

Those Hyundai "bells and whistles" (not to mention the spectre of catastrophic engine failure and fires) will turn that Tuscon into a money pit as it ages. The Toyota was definitely the right choice here.

You 100% made the right choice. Dodged a bullet even.

Yes, you made the right choice before going into a deathtrap. Hyundai and Kia's reliability has been decreasing over the years. At this point, the forum members and I don't recommend any Hyundai and Kia products.

9 out of 10 times, Toyota is the right choice.

All the bells and whistles in the world mean nothing if it makes the vehicle unreliable and has issues over time.  As it is Hyundai Motor Group products have had persistent quality issues for a while and we don’t recommend any of their products to members.  That was a wise choice to go with the 2018 Toyota RAV4 and as a bonus the last model year of that generation, so should be the most sorted.  It’s good NOT to have drama during one’s car ownership (which the Hyundai would have provided).

The only way the Hyundai would have been the better choice is if he was only going to keep for a few years and trade it in. For overall life the 2 can't compare.

Yup, my dad likes to keep his cars until until they die, so I'm glad we went with the RAV4 at this point!

I remember years ago I bought a 2001 Tiburon used at the Hyundai dealership. Then I referred my parents to get an Elantra. And as a thank you the dealership sent me $200. That Elantra had so many issues that before long I started referring to that money as blood money.

Yes it's the best choice. 2018 rav4 is an excellent choice vs the POS 2020 Hyundai Tucson that will blow up and catch fire.

Toyota was definitely the best choice. Hyundai adds extra bells and whistles to make their cars look nice for those people who buy cars based on bells and whistles and not quality.

All the bells and whistles mean nothing if the car doesn't run. 2018 RAV4 is one of the best out there.

Before buying a Camry I had a VW, just nothing but problems. You thought VW has more bells and whistles, my Camry base model has more actually. I also drove some Hyundai before( my in-law's car), not that many bells and whistles and ride quality is so bad.

Your dad will enjoy the RAV4.
