Hi Scotty. I was told the water pump in my 2015 corolla was "weeping" 3000 kilometres ago. The coolant reservoir was low and I had it topped up. Since then, the coolant has gone down very slightly, but is still basically full. Am I ok to just keep topping this up or do these water pumps have the potential to catastrophically fail? Am looking at selling in the next 12 months in any event. Cheers
I've also seen your video where you describe this "weeping" as very normal and a classic mechanic trick to up sell ignorant customers, hence my reluctance to pay $600 to get it replaced!
Keep a close eye on it. Weeping hole is there to weep, … tiny amount, that is.
Anyway, don’t top it up for a bit. Note where the level in the expansion tank is when cold (should be a bit above a low mark). Note where the level in the expansion tank is when hot (should be a bit below hi mark). Keep checking for a day or three. If drop is noticeable, water pump seal is giving up.
Also, wash a radiator cap, … it may have residue build up and causes higher pressure in the cooling system. It happens when someone used a hard water as a diluent. Calcium precipitate, interfere with spring loaded diaphragm.
