Is it a good idea to use wd40 in a manual transmission by spraying it in the transmission shift gates?

IMHO, never use WD40 as a lubricant. It’s not a lubricant. Use lubricant for a lubricant.

I've never considered doing so.
WD40 in itself isn't a general purpose lubricant (per se), but was developed as a Water Displacement spray (hence the WD in WD40). The acronym stands for Water Displacement, formula 40. (Boring little bit of trivia, huh ?)
Would it harm anything ? Not sure, I'd have to get into the chemistries involved.
And I believe it was the 40th recipe that wound up on the market ; )

WD40 is not sticky like an oil or grease so you would have to add it very often to maintain low friction.
