Hi Scotty, love your YouTube channel! I have a 2003 Dodge RamVan 2500 w/5.2L V8 that won't start (cranks ok), and displays a 'no bus' error on the odometer. Battery, fuses, and all wiring appear to check out ok. After sitting a few months, it did briefly start up and run ok for a few minutes but than shutoff and now back with same 'no bus' error and symptoms. It appears the PCM needs to be replaced, and when looking at ordering one, they all show it will need to be 'flashed' with the VIN and current vehicle mileage.. * Can you please recommend an 'affordable' OBD2 scan tool that can do that? Or will I need to be at the Dealer's mercy and need to have them do that.
Any advice and / or recommendations much appreciated. - Vince
Here's the problem. A scan tool that can actually reprogram the correctly would start at about 1,500 bucks. Mine cost five grand. But then you have to pay for a subscription to get the software. So I'll go to a place like Napa where they can sell you the ECM and have it programmed for you. Unless you're going to start up a garage, it's not cost effective to buy all the equipment and all the subscriptions to use it
