Hello Scotty! I appreciate your advice and thankyou for what you do,
I am reaching out because I just purchased a 2019 Nissan rogue and I am worried about what I have seen about the CVT transmission.
It has 52,000 Miles and is in good shape but I will have to keep this vehicle for quite some time .
Could you please tell me what I should do as far as servicing this transmission ? In my Chevy Cruze I did a drain and fill with exactly the amount I took out and it worked great .
I am just trying to figure out if the Nissan specific tran fluid is a must and if doing a drain and fill will be sufficient for the first matinence preformed at 52k miles .
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thankyou!
Austin Farris.
You are right to be concerned, those Jatco CVTs have a very poor reputation. Your best course of action would have been not to buy a car equipped with one of those, but that ship has sailed. Change fluid every 20K to 30K miles using OEM fluid and take it easy driving. (According to Scotty it is OK to put back in the same amount that came out.) I don't know if that transmission has a serviceable filter but if so it should be changed as well.
@chucktobias this CVT is a XTRONIC which apparently according to sources online is a much better transmission than the years before which were known for being bad. Are you familiar with that transmission?

Nope. However they can make up any fancy name they want, knowing Nissan's drive to the bottom in quality since Renault got into the mix and their subsidiary Jatco's reputation for CVTs I still would not trust it. Note transmission problems are a top problem reported for that model. (If you didn't have concerns about it you would not have asked the question!)
