Adding @mod_man
still do not have answer for 1987 corvette 4 spd auto
Well if you're going to use any kind of liquids to clean the motor you got to be careful not to get the electronics wet. Now there's a million charges out there basically just go to Amazon and get one of those trickle chargers there are only forty fifty bucks very simple devices they are just transformers
A pretty good summary:
https://www.corvsport.com/1987-corvette-common-issues/#1987-corvette-common-issues
All Corvettes are finicky, and it is typically the electricals and seals (body seals) that are problematic on those. And, of course, the pop up headlights.
I would stick with the recommended engine oil, particularly if it's running well with no issues using it. For the trans if you've checked the simple stuff you probably need to take it to a transmission shop that knows those older transmissions for diagnosis.
just bought 1987 vette, what is best way to clean engine compartment, it,s auto tranny, what should i be aware of. rides good, brakes good, so far electronics work properley, storing for winter months any advice??. also what brand charger did you recommend?
Those 350 engines are in my opinion (aside from the Toyota 1.8L engines) the best engines ever made. Now the trannys on the other hand are a bit different. If it’s a turbo 350 or turbo 400 4 speed automatic, they are great trannys, but if they are the 4 speed automatics after the those, they are typically the weakest point of the driveline. They can typically last over 200,000 miles or so, but they aren’t as good as the tubro 350 or tubro 400’s.
I HAVE 1987 VETTE 5.7LTR,4SPD OD AUTOMATIC 132000 MILES,ENGINE RUNS EXCELLENT,NO NOISES,TRANNY NO SLIPS SLAMS INTO REVERSE,(NOT UJOINTS ALREADY TRIED) IT'S TRANNY, HAVE RECIEVED HELP SUCH AS,CHECK LINKAGE,CHECK REVERSE BAND FOR ADJUSTED PROERLY. ANYTHING ELSE, ONE MORE QUEST. SHOULD I KEEP USING 5W30 OIL AS RECOMMENDED OR SHOULD I USE SYNTHETIC? OR HI MILEAGE OIL??
