Can I put gear oil in my Civic manual transmission.

What's good everyone. What's happening if someone were to use gear oil instead of manual transmission fluid? My cousin was at Autozone cause he needs a manual transmission fluid change and he was wondering what happens if gear oil is used instead? He's got a 2002 Honda Civic LX 5-Speed.

@chaseboy4 you are frequent poster here. Please stop using these ambiguous titles, and say what you actually want. I'm getting tire of deciphering them. Thanks.

I know I'm sorry. My thought process isn't well if I've had a bad day or am frustrated.

Manual transmission oil is basically gear oil. But it's been finely tuned for that particular transmission.

If he cares about his car, he should just get the right stuff. Why complicate things?

Use exactly the gear oil recommended in your owner's manual.
