My neighbor is selling their 2012 Hyundai Sonata with 50,000 miles for $5000 grand. I can't afford a newer used car and the car I have now has over 200,000 miles on it. Although it is the base model the car is in great condition but I have heard mixed reviews on the Sonatas from around this year. What should I do?
Get it checked out. There's a lot of talking heads in here that'll say only buy a Toyota or Honda. But obviously that might not be feasible. There's no way you're gonna find a Toyota for that price. But if you get the Hyundai checked by a mechanic (especially the engine) it can actually be a good buy
You should avoid Kia/Hyundai like the plague. You will be sorry you ever considered one.
Hyundai's quality (never exactly top tier to being with) took a real nosedive around that time. Serious engine problems are all too common. I would look elsewhere.

You said your current vehicle has over 200K miles but did not say anything about make, model, or condition. Why are you looking to replace it?
The car I have now is a 2004 BMW 3 series which is just problem after problem, I was able to take care of the problems until my work hours got cut down now I am trying to get rid of it.
Problem is that buying that Sonata might well be jumping out of the frying pan into the fire.
Don't waste ur time buying a Sonata. Look at an Accord, Camry, or Lexus ES, much better cars.
