Head gasket problems

Recently the head gasket went bad on my Ford Fusion 1.6L ecoboost. I brought it into the shop and they quoted me $5,500 for a new engine. I asked him why the head gasket couldn’t just be replaced and he says typically there’s a cracked head or other damage. I was hoping to trade this car for a pickup so should I get the new engine, find someone els to change the head gasket, or sell as is?

Eco boost are held to work on but if you can find a guy to do the head gasket do it and sell it if it's not too much but really that probably cost so much better just to get rid of the crap or is it stands and get a Toyota or Honda instead
