What to buy for summer (All season tires vs. Performance/Summer tires)

I've got a 2013 honda civic ex automatic transmission.  I have a set of winter tires on rims, but looking for 2 tires for the summer... What's trending to me is the performance tires brand new have half the life expectancy vs all season tires.  Your thoughts?

It's a softer compound so it lasts less time. Pirelli is the way to go for performance tires.

New tires ALWAYS go on the rear, for control reasons.

That's interesting. Thanks man.

All season is the way to go. AS last longer, handle pretty well in dry and wet, are softer when temperatures drop, are not effected much to form a flat spots when parked for a while. If you choose well (Continental, Pirelli, Michelin - take your pick), you will do OK.

I say a premium AS set all the way for three seasons, - winter set for snow!

Thanks, just one last thing... Today I just balanced 2 tires with a good amount of life left, unfortunately there summer tires from the previous owner. Before I set my appointment for 2 Continental AS tires, do I put the used summer's on the front or rear? Much appreciated...

Best tires on front. Front wheel drive cars - like your Civic - front tires break, propel, steer the car. Rear just go for a ride, … just little break if breaking hard.
Now, mixing tires: two AS and two S? I’m not a proponent for that. In dry, … most likely OK. In rain, … dicey at best. Perhaps, … it’s time to pass on AS and buy just two equivalent S tires this time around? Perhaps others may want to chime in on this? Dunno, …

Unfortunately I'll now buy 2 used Summer's for a fraction of the price. Just did the seasonal tire swap today(Toronto, CAN). Anyone have any thoughts on how long it's okay to drive on 2 non balanced rear tires and 2 fronts just balanced today?
