Hello, My grandfather had two trucks that he left behind. One is a 1965 ford f100 I beam with the inline-six, and the other is a 1970 Chevrolet C10 with the 350 cc V8. Both trucks were taken really good care of, and start right up. The ford has a 5-speed manual, while the chevy has an automatic transmission. What Is good about these trucks, should I throw some money into them? or are they completely useless. The mileage is unknown, I know it is over 100,000 on both because the odometer rolls back at 99,999 miles
thanks
It's up to you. If you really like them and want to drive them, then keep them. But understand they will require constant maintenance and money to run right.
If you're not that into antique cars, then sell them. I'm sure some collectors would pay handsomely for them.
With both trucks being well kept up, I'd say they both have some value. 67-72 C-10s seem to sell pretty good these days (I've had 2 in my lifetime). My opinion would be the Ford would be less of a headache because of the straight 6 and manual transmission, but if both have been kept up well then either might be really good.
You said the Ford had a 5 speed transmission? Is that factory or was it replaced at some point? I think I've seen some '4' speeds that far back (3 driving gears and one granny gear for pulling) but not a 5 speed.
Assuming both have not been heavily modified, I'd be real happy with either one....simple to work on, carburated, points instead of electronic ignition...not as efficient but less to tear up. If you want to post some pics, I think lots of us would love to see them!
Yes my mistake, it is a four-speed, I didn't have the truck with me so I took a quick gamble
Gotcha. If you can keep them both and be able to use them at least some, I would hang on to them. Especially if they are mostly stock. They both need to be used to stay in good shape. The worst thing you can do is let one sit. One example, the 71 c10 I had was an automatic which I had rebuilt. I did not drive it but once in a long while (like 4 times a year) and the tranny started leaking because seals dried out. Just saying if you can keep them and use them some, go for it. If you can't you might consider getting rid of one or both.
i would keep both and pass them on!
