Scotty,
New subscriber, love all your videos! I currently drive a 2014 Lexus IS 250 and the two car seats in the back are really making it a tight squeeze. I’ve been looking at pickup trucks, specifically the F-150’s 2018 or newer, or maybe the Toyota Tundra. I also was looking at the Ram 1500 but you changed my mind after all the recalls they’ve had on that model. I live in the Midwest so 4WD is a must. I won’t be towing much it’s really just gonna be a family mobile. I was wondering what you thought the best family truck would be for just day to day use and something that will last and be reliable. Thanks look forward to hearing back.
If your budget allows get the Tundra if you want this truck for long term. If you’re only planning on owning it for 10 yrs or so F150 wouldn’t be a bad choice. I’d get the 5.0 or the 2.7 eco, although I’m not a big fan of those eco boost motors the 2.7 had a revamp in 18 that has duel injectors instead of just the GDI set up. I’ve also heard better reviews for the 2.7 than the 3.5. Especially if you’re not going to be towing a lot. What I don’t like about the Fords is that 10 speed auto in those have had some issues that still need worked out.
F-150 and Tundra are the two best choices you could've picked. The Ford F-150 only with a V8 engine. I'd stay away from any kind of eco boost. Between those two... it really depends how much money you're willing to pay. The Tundra will be more expensive, but It'll probably last longer. How long are you planning to keep it for?
I’ve heard the same, “GO with the 5.0 V8 for reliability”. It would be great if I could keep the truck long term, nothing better Han not having a car payment.
I’ve been looking at the Tundras, a little harder to find than the Fords obviously. My budget is around $35k-$40k. I’ve found a couple but Most have been in some sort of accident though so I keep falling back to the f-150.
Tundra > F150 no ecoboost >>> RAM > F150 w/ecoboost
Since you mentioned MY 2018+, I would avoid the F-150 V8 (as well as the Ecoboost versions). For long term reliability, go with the Tundra. Please see post below from one of our esteemed members Mod_Man.
The new Gen3 5.0 Coyote V8s (from 2018+) are susceptible to oil consumption due to Ford switching to plasma arc cylinder liner technology. Also, the 10-speed AT has had some issues and still not true and tried yet.
