96 Geo Metro 95k miles Base 1.0L

looking to buy a geo metro thats probably been sitting around a while. Ive at least seen it start so at worst i can make noise for 400 bucks.

Wanted to change all of the fluids prior to any extensive drives since the fluids have most likely broken down over time.

What kind of MTF do i need for the car? I know the capacity but im not sure if GL4 or GL5 with synchromesh or whatnot.

Not looking for reccmd. like redline, I would like to a by the book style fluid.

Not sure what the Metro is supposed to take but I've found that Honda MTL works great in manual transmissions. Even the designed-in-a-drug-induced-haze 5-speed transmission in the old original Saab 900 is noticeably smoother with that stuff.

However I can understand wanting to stay with the factory fill. You might want to check on a Metro forum if no one here knows what that is.

Quick look on that forum says pretty much GM or Pennzoil synchromesh.

That should do the trick. Any quality trans oil that satisfies the factory specs would be fine.

It should specify the grade and weight of the gear oil you need in your owner's manual.  They are available in a pdf format online.  I would go with that.
