Which Motor Oil to use?

Greetings Scotty,

I own a 2012 Toyota Corolla Fielder (JDM) with a 2ZR-FAE engine and 178K miles that I purchased used in 2020. I currently use "10W-30" motor oil in it but was considering changing to "0W-20" as recommended in the owner's manual. I live in Jamaica and the rep at the auto parts shop advises against using the "0W-20" due to the tropical temperatures here. What are your thoughts/recommendations?

Always go by the owners manual. The engineers at Toyota know more about the car than some guy behind the parts counter.

Look at the owner's manual and see what weight oil is recommended for the ambient temperature you are driving the car in.

Does your owner’s manual give you an option of various oil specifications which you can use or just the 0W20?

I’m guessing 0W20 was intended for use in the local Japanese market?

What does your local Toyota dealer recommend for your local conditions?

Either will work fine in your climate.  Preferably fully synthetic.

Thank you all for your responses. I think I will change to 0W-20 for my next oil change. And definately fully synthetic.
