I have had the sliding door issue for two weeks now and I have been trying to fix it. I called Toyota yesterday from where I am stationed in Germany. I talk with them and ask them what I could do. They say that they don’t recommend bringing Toyota’s made in the US to other countries (which is fair, but also kind of poor at standing by their brand). I asked if there was a way to get it fixed and they said they might reimburse me. I literally said “So, I get it fixed and and then hope Toyota will pay for it?” The lady I spoke with said “yeah”. I know I am to blame for bringing over a Toyota from the states, but Toyota USA won’t work with me. I mean the engine is fine, but that cable and sliding door locking system is just trash.
Clarification: Toyota Sienna, right? Which year?
Do they sell Toyotas in Germany? If not then there is not much that Toyota can do for you.
They do. They just refuse to work on models they don’t officially distribute.
I kind of get it, but most dealers are way nicer. my volvo dealer works on my personally imported one without asking any questions, they have accedes to the manuals and what more could they want…
Most manufacturers won't do that.
I think Toyota's are very good cars but my experience with Toyota itself has not been very good with issues that I have had in the past.
I drive a Tacoma now (frame rust issue they had to be sued for) , but I dont think I will buy another Toyota. I never had these issues with Honda/Acura
They said they would reimburse you. I would be happy with that.
They said they "might" reimburse him. That's pretty non-committal.
yeah he needs to clarify what those conditions are
Well I am on the phone with Toyota USA with a supervisor now and hopefully will get some form of assistance. I got this van because I saw what Scotty had said about Toyota three years ago. They told me that I shouldn't have bought a Toyota and brought it to Germany, but what is a U.S. Service Member going to do? Let the tires rot away and let my van rust into oblivion? The military doesn't pay for storage of a vehicle. I hope this can be resolved in some way or else I might have to write a letter to Toyota Japan and see what happens.
Yup, just as I thought, Toyota guarantees nothing. This is pathetic after being called at 10:30pm yesterday from a supervisor who was supposed to call me at 7:00pm. I gave them my time zone too! Absolute trash how they treat their customers. Well, I guess I got my answer, Toyota doesn't care if you are on orders or not, you're screwed if you buy from Toyota USA.
Yes, there are dealerships here in Germany, but sometimes they don’t service us spec cars.
So the conclusion from the phone call is that Toyota USA does not recommend service members buy their vehicles and bring them abroad because their support program doesn’t support Soldiers abroad. I think I’ll rate every dealership near a military installation And warn service members against from buying their vehicles.
