Which truck for overlanding & camping?

I am starting all over late in life and right now looking at buying my next 2 trucks as retirement traveling and camping vehicles. One will be built for long distance camping/overlanding and the other will be built for long term camping. I am thinking moving to diesel, I love the new GMC AT4 3.0 diesel and the RAM 1500 eco-diesel. The other is the RAM 2500 single cab diesel with an 8 foot bed. Now my question is the 2500 can do both of what I want by carrying all my camping, hunting, and fishing gear. Should I buy new or used on the 2500, and what are your thoughts on the two 3.0 diesels?

The Ram uses an Italian-built diesel motor. There have been a ton of problems with them breaking prematurely. I would rule that out immediately.

As for the GM baby diesel, why not look at a 2500 HD Duramax? Better built and will handle what you are trying to do easily.

New or used Regular cab. Which is better on the electrical and plastic buts?

Bits.

Well with anything electrical and plastic, the newer the better.

Switch from Dodge products to something else. Go with Ford or Toyota.

Wanting to switch to diesel.

So go for Ford or GM. Forget about Dodge.

Go test drive both diesels, GMC2500 and F250 and see which one you like the best, and meets all your towing/overlanding needs.
