Well, this question is about my concern on which one of this cars choose, I have two appointments tomorrow to see both cars and I would like to hear your honest opinion between this two models taking as reference this points that I'm looking for:
1st. Reliability and build quality (By this I mean which one of this two could age better and with enough care last longer)
2nd. Better diagnose of engine and electrical problems.
3rd. The availability of auto parts up to this day, sometimes with some models where not a lot of people had back in the time the reparability or change of some parts gets hard as those parts are more and more limited.
Obviously the mechanical and aesthetic condition aren't the best for both cars, so my plan is trying to get a good deal with one of this with the purpose of daily usage and the possibility of learning along the way of preparing and enhancing all the visuals around the vehicle. I'm a young mechanic enthusiast so that would be a good opportunity to learn a lot about an specific vehicle that I haven't ever seen in person. Thank you in advance. {black}:laughingoutloud:
I would stay far away from both
None of the above.
No Honda or Toyota in your area?
I know nothing specifically about these cars. If I were to just take i wild guess, my money would be on the Mitsubishi Galant, because this car was developed before the merger/alliance of Mitsubishi, Nissan, Renault. And it is a Japanese car, which usually (but not always) tend to fair better than their American counterparts. Like I said I know nothing about the car off the top of my head.
I’m assuming you aren’t in the US, because we never had the Mercury Mystique.
The Mercury Mystique is basically a rebadged Ford Mondeo.
If the Mystique came with a Ford Duratec engine (the real Duratec, not the badge engineered Duratec engine) the Mystique may be interesting. That’s because it was co developed by Mazda, and they seem to last. I’m not a mechanic, this is just from general observation, so I could be wrong.
With that said, these are nearly 25 year old cars. They will need a little TLC.
To answer your questions specifically:
1) Galant > Mystique. That is just a wild guess though. I much prefer Honda or Toyota.
2) about the same. I assume that these cars come with an OBDII port to help in diagnosis. In the US, cars built after 1996 needed to have this by law.
3) My guess is parts would be more plentiful with the Mystique, since it shares components with a bunch of Ford Products. Mitsubishi isn’t as big as Ford, so parts may be less. But this is just a guess.
