I have a 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac with the 4.0 engine. My temperature gauge has gone crazy. It reads normal and then pegs all the way to max temperature constantly. I thought I might try to replace the sending unit before taking to a mechanic. There are two temperature sending units on top of the thermostat housing. My question is which one is for the temperature gauge? The one closest to the driver or passenger side? I've tried to Google the answer but found conflicting information.

Thank you very much for your assistance. Replacing the sensor resolved the issue, and the gauge is now functioning properly. I appreciate your help.
