Which used Japanese car do I want?

I don't need a daily driver as I don't commute. I volunteer as an EMT and with a roadside assistance group (tire changes and batteries, no towing)

My 2005 Prius just died. I'm looking at a 2002 Highlander with almost no service records but no rust with 100k miles for $3850 and a 2008 Acura MXD from rural PA with 140k miles for $4500

Which is the better buy here?

Both are very great choices from resources and skilled mechanics I follow. The next thing would be background check each vin of the cars, and then to inspect/see the car as much as you can during a showing and then ask if your trusted mechanic can inspect the 2 contender cars your interested in. if the seller says no or pressures you while your looking at each one, that's a red flag. take a scan tool as well. You can see when the codes were last cleared. make sure title is clean and isn't overwhelmed with signatures and lastly here's a link to a list of common issues any car you look up can have that can help guide your final decision.

The one that was maintained better.
