Hello Sir,
My wife have a very trustworthy personal mechanic for more than 15 years, he has been honest with us and kept our vehicles on the road. He recently acquired a used 2006 Scion XA with only 51,246 miles on it. It is an automatic with the 1.5L VVTI enging, and let me tell you it has been well maintained and runs like a sewing machine!! I know it's now 19 years old. My mechanic Chad, has gone through the car very thoroughly, changed every possible fluid and filter, replaced a couple of vacuum hoses and put a new belt on it. The brakes pads still have 60% pad life on them. However, the one negative about the car is the horrific paint job. The clear coat has been basically disintegrating over the past few years. Not to sound so much like a cliche' bit the car literally did come from an elderly lady who retired and move to California. She bought the car new in California and barely put 3,200 miles a year on it. My wife and I have taken to calling the car "Ugly Duckling". But dang, the car drives great and gets 38mpg on the highway and about 32 in the city. We have only bought used cars for the last 32 years (been married for 43 years), and we take immaculate care of them. What are your thoughts or concerns on what to worry about on a 2006 Scion XA 1.5 Automatic... THANKS John and Christa Cundiff
The main thing is whether it burns oil or not. Many of those had bad piston rings and burn oil. So remove the spark plugs and see if there is burnt oil on the spark plugs and don't buy it. If it is. You can also stick your finger in the exhaust pipe buying the car when it's cold and see if there's slimy black burnt oil there
