Took my mom's 2005 Rx Lexus 330 in for inspection. Mechanic said the car isn't worth it to maintain. Let me explain. He showed me that every engine oil seal was leaking. Ok not so bad but also the coolant was leaking behind the engine area. In a tough hidden spot to get to. It has two cat codes. 420 and 430. Cat cleaner was used in the past to no avail. So two catylicitic converters need to be replaced. Timing belt still has life but I intended to get that job done. The old yeller kicker is the rust in the undercarriage that's concentrated around the rear suspensions where it connects to the unibody frame. It has rotted through some parts. The foot rails on one side rusted out and fell off. I had to tie up the the foot rail. Mechanic said it's unsafe to remove and one bad pothole can turn this Lexus into toast. I would like some input. Is rust restoration viable? The sad part is the engine still has life and the car rides so nice.
most of those things aren't a big deal. The rust is a deal breaker though. Sounds toast. Oh well 20 years aint bad.
