Will Honda end production of gasoline powered cars sooner rather than later? RIP?

Scotty, Honda recently announced the end of production of vehicles at its Sayama mother plant near Tokyo. They are planning to go to fully electric cars in the not to distant future. Have the Honda executives lost their minds? They have been losing ground to Toyota and this will likely make it worse. Could those great 4 cylinder gasoline engines in the Civic and Accord be gone soon in terms of new production?

Unless the next-gen Accord and Civics are going to be fully electric, I wouldn't say that Honda has fully lost it.

Only in North America and Europe right?

That scheme would get laughed at everywhere else.

Tbh I think this making fully electric vehicles starting from a particular timeframe is kind of because of the current hype and conversations around electric vehicles and it wouldn't fully happen. it just doesn't make sense for every single type of vehicle out there to become fully electric. Hybrid is a totally different thing and it works and makes sense in many vehicles, but fully electric no. And in general politicians shouldn't be deciding about how to make cars; that should be left to those who know about cars.
