[Solved] Will my 05 Camry make it to Mexico and Bach?

Hi Scotty,

My partner and I are hoping to drive from Boston to the Yucatán peninsula in late December to stay the winter. 3,500 miles one way. Our 2005 Camry V6 automatic with 249,000 miles is generally in good condition (we change oil every 3,000 miles) although I feel there is some “clunk” in the transmission at times. Would you be interested in looking at it to see if we are being foolish?  (Not asking about safety of driving in Mexico which we have investigated but just the road worthiness of our car.) We live in Boston so if you are still in RI it would be easy for us.

Thanks,  Marty

“and back”. Damn autocorrect, you make a typo and look like an idiot.

It's risky

Get it it inspected if you really wanna take the risk

Oh yes. We plan on that. Thanks

With the "clunk" you describe, I would say HIGHLY UNLIKELY.

Thanks

@Doc Yeah that scares me more than the mileage.

I would think twice about driving a 17-year-old car (even a Camry) on a trip like that unless maybe I had a trunk full of tools and spare parts.

Thanks. Unfortunately I’m no mechanic so they wouldn’t help much.

That car just doesn't seem like a great candidate for a trip like that, particularly if you're experiencing clunks in the drivetrain.
