Hi, I have been searching for my first car for awhile, and I have come up with this 2012 Honda civic for sale. It is from a private party. The transmission is automatic and it has 140k miles on it. We went to the mechanic together and the mechanic said the vehicle was fine except for the cosmetic problems, and that it could run for a long time.
The only problem is the vehicle has a salvage title and I found previous pictures online of it where the front fender and bumper was crushed and they seemed to be replaced with new ones.
The owner is asking for 6k. I know that it is smart choice to stay away from salvage titled vehicles but since the mechanic said that the vehicle is good, should I buy this car? I also did test drive it and the vehicle felt fine when I drove it. Please let me know what you guys think. Thank you.
Check with your insurance company to see if they'll even write a policy on the car before you buy it.

If you accept the risks of buying a salvaged title vehicle, offer half the asking price (or even less) and see what happens.
It’s kinda like gambling to me. I bought a salvaged car once. And it had been flooded and I had all these faults I had to keep resetting the computer to Whare I just junked the thing and got pocket change for it. And the thing is I didn’t know it had been flooded.
Thanks for the advice everyone. 6k was the negotiated price down from 9k. I decided not to go with it since it seems to involve too much risk, and I need a reliable car.
