Working on a Cadillac CTS

Hello everyone. My buddy has an old Cadillac CTS from the early 2000s and I don’t know the mileage. I would guess that it does probably have quite a few miles on it since it is a hand me down car. I told him I would diagnose and work on it some for him but I’m unfamiliar with Caddies as I’m a Lincoln man myself. What would be some things to check and look out for? And also, since the car does already have some issues would it be worth keeping? If it could be reliable transportation maybe, but since it’s a gm... I question the quality to say the least. Any info on these cars and what to check is greatly appreciated.

Do a compression test on the engine. Since the mileage isn't shown, it may be an electrical issue. Check the transmission on that car to make sure it shifts ok. Since it's an early CTS, check the rear bezel cover.

It’s not that the mileage doesn’t show, my friend just hasn’t told me. I haven’t seen the car in person yet. Sorry I wasn’t clear. Thank you for your input.
