Scotty mentioned a device in one of his videos that can make dead hatch struts stay open. I can't find the link does anyone have it?

Yeah I remember that video. It was a collar that locked onto the strut shaft. I can't remember the product name.

But you know what ... struts are really easy to find, off-the-shelf, inexpensive components. I say just replace them.

oh rubbish. You don't have to buy oem ones for hundreds of dollars. Universal struts are $35 a pair at my local hardware store.
All a vicegrip is good for is slipping off , so the hatch knocks you out or throws you in the car. Scotty is such a cheapskate sometimes.

I had to replace the trunk struts on a 2001 Mustang. Got the new ones at Auto Zone for under $25 for the pair. Never did it before. Took all of 20 minutes. don't jerk around with temporary fixes. buy new ones.

TBH, for most cars, I think it is cost effective to change out the struts that to use the band aid solution.

He mentioned hoodstay products for the hood struts. I'm sure you can use it for the hatch as well.
