Hi Scotty! I own a 2002 Highlander V6 (aka catmobile) with 160,000 miles on it. It used to be a beautiful burgundy red and is now faded and the clearcoat is peeling. I hope to keep it 5 more years but am embarrassed to drive it. Would it be worth the money to get it painted? Thank you!
If the car is low mileage, clean, still holds a good value, go for it. If its the entire car that needs to be repainted, then that might be costly. If the quote turns out to be worth almost the price of the car, I would not bother, just drive the car, don't worry about what others think of it! 😀
Yes, Scotty does talk about totally repainting a car. But... it's a mini micro 1990-something MIATA!!!
My darling mother used to say "Alley... I told you a million times...DON'T EXAGGERATE!!!"
Still... In the case of your monster pilot... you might have to blow your life savings to cover its 15,000 soft surface area with 35 gallons of paint!
But you won't have to drop a plug nickel to shop around for an estimate!
GOOD LUCK!
In Scottys latest Miata video he talks about painting an old car with faded paint and peeling clear coat. It’s the rust you need to be concerned about. Surface rust is less of an issue but on fenders he recommends leave it alone or buy a cheap aftermarket fender instead of body work and paint it. I can park my 04 Altima with a peeling clear coat next to yours and you will no longer be embarrassed.
