Hey Scotty, I've been looking for a good EV or Hybrid conversion kit for my truck. I happened across a company Named XL Fleet, they make a kit for $9k that converts the truck to a plug-in hybrid, and claims to more than double fuel mileage. Do you think this would be a good investment?
Chip
did you calculate how many miles you will have to drive to break even with the $9k you will spend?
Haven't gotten to that point yet. in addition to fuel savings, it also supposedly provides additional torque when needed. I am no where near purchasing this. And likely won't ever be in the income bracket where I can purchase a Ford F-150 Lightning. I'm 64, and with good care this will likely be my last car. I'm just wondering about what sounds like a good investment.
You want to put about $10K into and already $30-40,000 truck just to (and here's the sales pitch) "double the fuel mileage?" Seriously? What exactly is it going to cost to double the fuel mileage? $10,000 can buy a lot of fuel, even at today's inflated, artificially high prices. How are you going to make out when the next president with a brain restarts all the energy industries in the US?
Imho, I don’t think it is worth it.
